ESL Program
English as a Second Language
Pacific Hills believes cultural diversity enriches our school community and we welcome overseas students! Our school is keen to offer support to students who speak English as a Second Language (ESL), either because they have grown up overseas, or because they speak another language at home and require additional help to improve their English skills.
ESL support includes in-class help and/or small withdrawal groups, plus assistance with assessments and exams where necessary. ESL support is offered in all year groups from Kindergarten through to Year 10. For Years 11 and 12, the English ESL course is available to students who qualify (i.e. who have been learning in English for five years or less). This is of particular benefit to students who are not yet able to undertake the rigors of the Advanced English Course.
Small class size ensures students are able to learn in a supportive and nurturing environment. A variety of students have participated in the ESL Course, including students who have just arrived in Australia and students who have been at the school for some years. Students who have completed the ESL English course have performed well.
